Georgian Heritage Week: A Celebration Rooted in Culture, Heritage, and Purpose

What a meaningful and fulfilling week it has been for the Georgian Heritage Foundation and our extended community. From May 20th through May 28th, we celebrated Sakartvelo through a series of events grounded in our commitment to culture, heritage, and purpose.

Below are the highlights of this impactful week:

May 20th – We opened the cultural exhibition Asomtavruli: Beyond the Frames of Time at the San José Public Library, celebrating the ancient Georgian script and honoring its enduring significance in shaping Georgian identity.

May 23rd – In collaboration with Mosaic America, we conducted a special lecture for students of AEON School in Silicon Valley as part of their Black Sea Culture program. The lecture offered an introduction to Georgian heritage and historical narratives.

May 24th – We hosted a public lecture as part of the ongoing GHF Lecture Series, titled From Alphabet to Supra. The event offered an immersive experience for both the Georgian diaspora and the local community, showcasing the artistry of Master Calligrapher Giorgi Sisauri. We were honored to welcome Pavel Sirotin, founder of Bevri Georgian Restaurant, whose captivating presentation on the history and evolution of Georgian gastronomy left a lasting impression. The day concluded with a live Master Class led by Giorgi Sisauri, breathing life into the Asomtavruli script and its contemporary relevance.

Later that evening, we opened the second installation of Asomtavruli: Beyond the Frames of Time at TBS Design Gallery. This exhibition was specially curated for the Georgian diaspora and students of the School of Georgian Heritage, featuring the visionary works of Giorgi Sisauri and fashion designer Megi Gabunia.

We also celebrated the premiere of the music video Mindia by the exceptionally talented Giorgi Giligashvili, blending contemporary artistry with the timeless soul of Georgian cultural narratives.

May 28th – We concluded the week with a Celebratory Showcase Exhibition and a final Master Class in Asomtavruli, welcoming members of the Bay Area architecture and design community. This closing event fostered dialogue between Georgian heritage, language, and aesthetics.

We extend our sincere thanks to Giorgi Sisauri, Megi Gabunia, and Giorgi Giligashvili for their extraordinary contributions. Through their art and dedication, they continue to uplift the story of the Georgian Diaspora and bring honor to our homeland.

Special appreciation goes to Pavel Sirotin and his family for their warm hospitality and generosity in treating our guests to Imeruli Khachapuri from Bevri Georgian Restaurant during the lecture. Your support made the day even more meaningful.

From ancient scripts to contemporary expressions, each of these moments reflects the heart of our mission - preserving, sharing, and celebrating the cultural legacy of Georgia.
